What Is Memory Care?

Memory care is a specialized form of senior living for people living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. It is delivered in a secured environment — designed to prevent unsafe wandering — by staff trained specifically in dementia care. Communities use structured routines, purposeful activities, and calming design to reduce confusion and agitation while keeping residents safe and engaged.

Memory care can be a dedicated wing of a larger assisted living community or a standalone community (including small residential care homes). Memory care is the right fit when a senior:

• Has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's or another dementia and needs supervision for safety.
• Wanders, gets lost, or leaves appliances or doors unsafe.
• Has trouble recognizing family, managing medications, or handling daily hygiene.
• Experiences sundowning, agitation, or confusion that is hard to manage at home.

What It Costs in the East Valley

Scottsdale's premium communities can run higher; Mesa often has more moderate options.
